Haa Toow’u Litseen in the Tlingit language translates to “we have inner strength.” We are a powwow style drumming group formed in 2012 at the Sitkans Against Family Violence (SAFV) shelter. Materials to make the drum were funded through SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium’s suicide prevention program, to be used as a community drum. We welcome all who want to learn (or just listen) to join in our practices and performances. We have performed for community events, recovery events, weddings, funerals and other requests. We don’t have a set practice day at the moment, but there is a core of members who know a few songs by heart. Frea Hillaire: fhillaire@gmail.com.
